WILLIAM HESSEL LIBRARY - INTERLIBRARY LOAN GUIDELINES
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services at William Hessel Library expand access to a broader range of academic and research materials by connecting current students and employees* of Lake Michigan College (LMC) with resources beyond the library's collection. By facilitating the borrowing and lending of books, articles, and other media through regional and national networks, ILL supports the diverse information needs of students and employees. This service plays a vital role in ensuring equitable access to scholarly content and enhancing the depth and quality of academic work.
- LMC students and employees may request items not owned by the William Hessel Library. Students and employees should search the library's holdings before submitting a request.
- LMC students and employees may request this service electronically, HERE, or by contacting Ask-A-Librarian.
- Current LMC students are permitted to have a maximum of five (5) ILL items at one time. Current LMC employees are permitted to have a maximum of ten (10) ILL items at one time.
- In most instances there is no charge for ILL items. If there are anticipated charges, the requester is notified before the request is processed. The requester is expected to pay for the fees prior to processing the request. Please double-check with library staff if you are unsure if the item you want will have a fee attached to it.
- LMC students and employees are notified upon receipt of the requested item(s). Books must be returned to the William Hessel Library on or before the designated due date. Articles are emailed for patrons to keep.
- Books not returned on the due date are considered lost material(s). The cost of lost or damaged materials plus any processing fees charged by the lending institution will be paid by the requester.
*The William Hessel Library provides ILL services for current LMC students and employees ONLY. Alumni & community patrons are encouraged to request ILL services from their local public library.
